Iconic Comics: Superhero Bodies

Wonder Woman

The bodies of superheroes have long been glorified, but over the last few decades they have become even more ideal. Muscles and breasts have become larger, waists smaller, and sexualization has increased to an all-time high. As a plastic surgeon, it’s easy to see that the bodies of these heroes are indeed magnificent and appear to be created with divine intervention (or, as some might surmise, plastic surgeon intervention). Although these bodies may be perceived as ideal, the majority of them cannot be achieved in real life through the natural processes of diet and exercise. For us mere mortals, obtaining many of these superhero bodies would require the powers of plastic surgery.

These iconic heroes have evolved over the years to represent the desired figures of the time, and Wonder Woman is no exception. In fact, she was ranked sixth in Comics Buyer’s Guide’s “100 Sexiest Women in Comics” list in 2011. Fighting for justice, love, peace, and gender equality, Wonder Woman has become a well-known feminist icon. Also known as Princess Diana of Themyscira, or simply Diana Prince, this bodacious babe had an hourglass shape at the time of her comic book debut in 1941. Over the years, her arms, hips, and legs have become slimmer and her breasts have become graciously larger. Just how did she achieve this transformation?

Wonder Woman’s Possible Plastic Surgery Procedures

Like most celebrities, Wonder Woman has yet to admit that she’s had plastic surgery. Among her magical weaponry, such as the Lasso of Truth and indestructible bracelets, perhaps Wonder Woman has also gained the weapon of heightened sexuality by undergoing the following plastic surgery procedures:

Liposuction

Since her comic debut, Wonder Woman’s body has become thinner in all the right places. In my opinion, it appears she underwent liposuction of the arms, hips, and calves to get rid of her stubborn fat in these areas. Since liposuction removes fat with a tube just the width of a straw through tiny slits in the skin, Wonder Woman’s scars would be virtually invisible. This fairly painless procedure no longer requires general anesthesia because a numbing fluid is used—not that Wonder Woman would have needed any painkillers when she has super strength and endurance.

Breast Augmentation

Wonder Woman was either very generously endowed by her gods or she underwent a breast augmentation procedure. Although her original shape was not lacking, recent depictions of her breasts are exceptionally voluminous yet appear natural, suggesting that she may have gotten silicone implants placed beneath her pectoral muscles. Whether her surgeon used an incision around her areolas or along the bottom of her bosoms, Wonder Woman’s scars would be hardly noticeable. She would have had to take a two week break from crime fighting to recuperate, but I’m sure her fellow Justice League team members had her covered during her recovery so she could properly heal and achieve her voluptuous shape.

Facelift

Although it’s been speculated that this superhero may be immortal, her longevity and the forces of nature would have eventually taken a toll on her facial appearance. To obtain her youthful, wrinkle-free face, I speculate that Wonder Woman got a facelift recently. Either Hermes’ gift of the ability of flight or outdated facelift techniques would have given Wonder Woman a windblown appearance, but Wonder Woman’s surgeon must have used techniques similar to mine to achieve her natural and balanced outcome. Pulled and unnatural facelift results are now things of the past, and since incisions can be hidden within the hairline, none of the heinous villains Wonder Woman battles nor her comrades would be able to tell that she had a facelift.

A Cultural Look at Wonder Woman: The Actors

Cathy Lee Crosby

Crosby appeared in Wonder Woman, the 1974 television movie. This movie received solid ratings but bad reviews from critics. Straying from the traditional brunette Wonder Woman, perhaps viewers disliked that Crosby’s blonde hair didn’t match her comic book image.

Lynda Carter

Carter is the iconic Wonder Woman and played her in two television series from 1975 to 1979 (The New Original Wonder Woman and The New Adventures of Wonder Woman). The combination of her beauty and strong yet compassionate performance captivated the hearts of viewers and helped her become the Wonder Woman so many women admire and so many men adore.

Adrianne Palicki

The unaired 2011 pilot for the new Wonder Woman television series was critiqued for David E. Kelley’s writing rather than Palicki’s acting. Called “one hell of an actress, capable of handling emotions big and small and demonstrating major screen presence” by prominent critic Alan Sepinwall, Palicki was ideal for the role, but Kelley’s characterization of Wonder Woman is said to lack dignity and charm. Perhaps someday Palicki will have the chance to show off her skills in this near impossible part to cast.

Who Should Play Wonder Woman?

Gina Carano

Highly commended for her starring role in the action thriller Haywire, many fans have been rooting for Carano to play the next Wonder Woman. Carano has commented that it would be fascinating to get to know the feminine yet strong character of Wonder Woman, but there is not currently anything in the works with Carano cast as this leading lady.

Megan Fox

Rumors were floating around that Fox was the frontrunner to play the part of Wonder Woman in a new movie, but Fox smashed the gossip by calling Wonder Woman a lame superhero and stating that she doesn’t want to take on the role. Apparently this actress, who is considered a modern sex symbol, doesn’t want to attempt the dauntless dame’s feminist role. And so the search for the next Wonder Woman continues…

Real or Not?

Many question whether or not Wonder Woman’s body is naturally obtainable for most women. While many actresses have been considered for the part, it is not often that you come across a tall woman with a large bust, tiny waist, slender figure, and strong jawline. Wonder Woman’s six foot stature alone is almost beyond the bounds of possibility for the average woman. For most ladies with such trim figures, a breast augmentation procedure would be necessary to achieve a chest the size of this gutsy gal. Women who have been naturally bestowed with an abundance of bosoms often also have some plumpness in the midsection or hips. Although diet and exercise can help eliminate extra flab to a certain extent, there are many stubborn areas of fat that would probably require liposuction in order to acquire Wonder Woman’s lean form.

Even if a woman naturally achieved the height and figure of this heroine, is it doubtful that she would also have the defined jawline of Wonder Woman without undergoing a facelift. Facelift surgery is generally used to eliminate loose skin and sagging in the face, but it can also improve the contours of the jaw.

Plastic surgery is a great option for anyone seeking to enhance their appearance and boost their self-esteem. However, a patient should only undergo plastic surgery for their own personal reasons rather than to satisfy the desires of others. While plastic surgery can help a person achieve a look similar to that of Wonder Woman’s, it is important to remember that each individual has been given a unique appearance that not even plastic surgery can replicate. Although cosmetic enhancements can definitely help a woman feel better about herself and increase her self-confidence, it is important to remember that Wonder Woman is much admired and beloved for her compassionate nature as well as her sexy appearance.
